This feature - hacking - depends on the movement. My own collection some have hacking and others don't. Generally the more expensive ones have it, but not always.

I have owned many watches over the decades from cheap and cheerful to an omega SeaMaster. Of all the watches with a second hand I have never had one with a non hacking movement before. Perhaps I have been lucky and the assumption is this is a non hacking watch as opposed to a fault despite having been serviced?

Yes, I think you are correct - you've just been lucky up until now. If you can post a pic of the movement, someone more knowledgeable than me, will be able to confirm that this particular one has no hacking feature for you.

 

Lots of vintage watches don’t hack I’m afraid,so no need to worry perfectly normal

On some movements if you pull the crown to time setting position and then turn it very slightly
anti clockwise and hold it in that position you can “ hold” the seconds hand .
probably doesn’t do the movement much good but it can work. Take care !

 

This forum is brilliant! I’ve never heard of hacking before with regards to watches. I’ve just tried the above and it worked on my Tegrov.

 

Your watch most likely has an excellent quality A. Schild movement. It is non hacking, as already mentioned which was pretty standard for the price/era of your watch. I wouldn't worry about it. Wear the watch and enjoy it, and set the time when you need to.
