Hi, will someone tell me how reliable are the claims made by Luminox watches (USA) about the longevity of the luminosity on the hour markers and hands. I am looking at the Ultimate field series with interest and will appreciate any input from a knowlegeable fellow member.

Do you mean how long do they glow for? or how long the tritium gas vials last?

They claim 10 years

The best thing is they require no 'charging up' and glow consistantly (until 10 years

I would say this is about right , Ive seen Marathon watches ( same vials) sold that are from the Gulf War 1 era and the lume is pretty much dead now...

It is all tied in to the half-life of tritium i.e. ~12.3 years and the longevity of the photoluminescent material contained in the tubes. The radiation given off by the tritium reacts with the photoluminescent material which emits a photon, the less radiation the dimmer the light.

After 10 years your Luminox won't be as bright, but it should still be OK after 10 years and probably more.

Beware of old stock though!
