Hi All

First post...

I was in Bicester Village (oxfordshire) yesterday and notices a shop called Hour Passion, they sold several of the Swatch Group Brands. I took a look at the Longines and noticed 2 things. 1) There wasn't a single Longines watch that i recongnised. 2) At a glance the discounts were between 30 and 50% off a stated RRP. This has got me thinking....

Is the suggested RRP a credible starting point? If the watch isn't current and in other shops the RRP could be anything.

How often to Longines cease certain models (assuming this store is just an outlet for discontinued models?)

I can't decide if the shop / watches actually offer good value for money.

Maybe you have been to this store and can clarify...

Cheers

Tim

Hour Passion and TAG in Bicester only sell watches made specifically for the outlet village. I even took a Tag which I brought from there to service and the service center told me it was fake. Not only until I provided proof of purchase did they say "they made a mistake " as they didn't want me to clock on it was rubbish standard.

I went to hour passion and the manager told me they mainly sell watches targeted to Chinese clients as they don't ever really check the watches and mainly look at price so wont care that its second standard tat.

there are a few good stores there though which recently opened, one selling bell and ross, rotary etc and one selling Girard Perregaux, Ulysse Nardin and JeanRichard, a few more but cant remember. Those stores even offer an extended Manufacture warranty so im sure its legit where as tag and hour passion offer a third party warranty but claim its their actual one.

No idea about Hour Passion but I have made a few purchases from the Tag store and all have been genuine and with real warranty. Even registered online to get the extra year warranty. I have sent a watch to LVMH for service under warranty and never had a query.

A while ago i was taking some photos showing prices and looked at a Tag Carrera calibre 36 which has the Zenith El Primero movement - doubt they would try and pass off some fake movement for that.

If you have evidence that they are selling sub-standard watches without real manufacturer warranty then why not notify Trading Standards?

Hi All and thanks for feedback. I have no quibble with Hour Passion - it just struck me as odd that i didn't recognise any of the Longines watches they were selling. Then i struggled to get my head around the price point / discount. A shop i shall be avoiding and thank you for the comments and feedback. I love Longines watches and would not want to spend over a grand on a watch that isn't first class.

On a slightly different note. I flex from Birmingham a few weeks ago and noticed a store called 'The Birmingham Watch Collection' which was selling products i did recognise at discounted prices. They have virtually every brand of watch you could wish for, and loads of them! They were priced up to offer a discount of 10%, the shop assistant approached me and said that on any watch over a grand they would give me an extra 5% - no bare in mind that i hadn't expressed an interest in a particular watch, nor had i tried anything on i was surprised to be offered extra discount. Anyway, Birmingham airport watch collection is good and i recommend you have a look if waiting in departures.
