I've had plenty in the past, and still got 6 in my collection, so... er... yeah, I quite like 'em :laugh:

 

My watch of choice before I got into watches, nice designs and decent quality for the price. We still have one in the house which I might well claim!

The first 2 are sadly deceased but the bottom one is still going strong.

I hate them.

Only because I have changed so many batteries on them and had trouble getting the backs back on more than a couple.

I've owned somewhere in the region of 20 -30 or so.

I sort of like them, and sort of don't. They produce some interesting looking watches which are normally slightly overpriced so you need to look for them when the are discounted.

I'm very much in the same camp as @Bowas I sort of started with a Fossil Coachman (which I regret selling) before I really knew much about what to buy.

I will neither knock them or put them on a pedestal, they tell the time, and their leather straps are pretty good. I currently have four...all of which are up for sale on the bay, but I know I'll buy one again.

I've never had one and I think mentally put the brand in the "mass produced fashion" box, which may well not be fair. Fourth largest watch company in the world, as of a report I read from 2015. I would never have guessed that.

 

Definitely don't love. And I don't necessarily hate, they're just cheap tat it's all. They serve a purpose for someone who doesn't care about watches but wants one to be traditional. If a coworker asks me for a recommendation I usually say fossil. I would say Seiko but there's just way too many options and so many are mechanical. I'll never recommend a mechanical watch to a normie. Citizen look great but are usually far too complicated for the average Joe and I almost never recommend solar powered watches to anyone. So yeah fossil is my go to. As little a regard as I hold for them they serve a purpose for most.

That all said if you're considering one I will steer you away. You being here tells me that you're not a one watch normie, you're a collector. Fossil are not worth collecting as far as I'm concerned.

Personally I mentally lump them in with Diesel, solid, sturdy looking watches that appear marginally better quality than other fashion brands at the same price point, but not really quite a match for the more budget entry watches from recognised watch brands.

Most offerings from either brand are bigger and more industrial looking than I'd wear, although I've occasionally double glanced at a Fossil diver that looks clean and smart, but it is bigger than I'd wear anyway.

 

I too would put them in the category of "fashion" watch and not for me.

That said, I do love the fact that some people put fashion watches at the bottom of the food chain, but ultimately they are what they are. My one fashion watch is a vivienne westwood gold plated Camden lock watch which I really enjoy. As with all things fashion, it's the look that counts.

 

Fossil humbly reminds me that the watch industry exists for non enthusiasts.

Fossil also own a manufacturer of a Eta 2824-2 clone movement, (as well as a few other brand names). The movements are made in Switzerland and supplied to their ranges and to other watch 'makers', so nice to see a tradition carrying on.

 

My wife who rolls here eyes if she catches me looking at watches on my work laptop or phone and takes the p*ss saying oooooooo just one more watch. and who I genuinely tell im looking at p*rn because it gets me less grief than watches!

If I look at Fossil she'll say your not buying that, they are just fashion sh*te. Which I use to my advantage to then up the budget and buy a proper watch.

So for me I like Fossil they are my default method to releasing budget for a new buy.
