80s Seamaster Quartz

Hi all - my wife recently bought me a vintage seamaster for my 40th (it's the same age as me). I love it but a couple of q's: Do you think it looks authentic? (She bought via ebay so is understandably wary) Is it the kind of watch you'd wear everyday? Just nervous about it getting damaged...

Does it has a calibre 1425 movement inside? Does it have a model number engraved on the inside of the caseback?

From the photos supplied it looks okay (suspect strap and buckle aside), but you should always look at the details inside a watch. As a general rule fakers are sloppy on the parts people cannot normally see.

 

Is it possible to open the case back myself or should I approach a watchmaker?

 

It looks fine to me. From the outside that is.

 

The only counterfeits from that era tend not to be copies of real watches , just lucky-lucky-man junk. That looks to me like a legitimate watch from an era when even if there was a copy of it, it would not look that good. If that makes sense.

If you are unsure/don't have the necessary tools, I would suggest taking it to a competent watchmaker, not a high street kiosk.

No. I'm simply saying that there is info out there, and ultimately it's down to you to decide what to do. This forum cannot say whether a watch is real or not.
