Yet another recent acquisition. I've been thinking about getting one of these G-Shock Memory In Pixel (MIP) watches for a while but I couldn't decide on the colour. When this one with a steel bezel became available, it immediately jumped out at me and I knew it was the version for me.

MIP displays are much more efficient than LCD displays because each individual pixel remembers whether it is on or off. So only pixels whose states are changing have to be refreshed. LCD requires the whole screen to be refreshed constantly. MIP displays are also much more legible than LCD. All that, I feel, justifies me having at least one in my collection.

It's quite a large watch at 45.5mm across x 50.6mm lug to lug x 13.8mm thick.

As well as all the usual G-shock features, this one can connect to your phone via bluetooth for time synching and for managing the numerous settings within an app, instead of fiddling around with the tiny menu displays on the watch itself. This is by far the easiest way to set everything up initially as there are a lot of options.

It also has a step counter:

It can track sunrise and sunset times as well as moonphase for your chosen location:

It can also track the tide (hence the G-Lide branding) at a large number of coastal spots although you need to select the one your are interested in, you can't scroll through. I was in Saltcoats yesterday so I set the watch to Ardrossan (which is contiguous) and it appeared to be showing the correct reading:

It also has a vibrating alarm and can display various notifications from your phone if you leave the bluetooth connection on (I can't imagine anything worse so that was the first thing I turned off).

The strap is comfortable and has a little dash of colour with the blue G-Lide text on the side:

The buckle and keeper are in black but unsigned and the gap between the holes is quite small, so a good fit is almost guaranteed:

It's not my favourite G-Shock but it is very comfortable, very legible and the metal bezel catches the light nicely.

What my wife said: "What is that you're wearing?!?! Looks like a Ben 10 watch."

yup, I have the 200 GDP or something
the display is great but the o.s. is terrible.
the blutoof can be dodgy but mine keeps time to a few seconds a month, so manually correcting the time might happen bi-annually.
to the point I ditched the app from my phone.

great beater though
