When the Hamilton Murph was released, it was just what I liked in a watch, but was too big at 42mm. Anything over 40mm without a wide bezel just looks like a dinner plate on my wrist.
Now they have released the 38mm size and I think it looks fantastic. I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but the no date dial and handset look really good and the simple yet elegant case complements it perfectly. I'm not a fan of bracelets so even the strap is a positive for me.
However there is one feature that is a deal breaker and it is the movement:
Huge power reserve and I'm sure it will be reliable, but look at the balance assembly, there's no way to regulate it 😞 . If it was cosc certified, then OK, but it isn't and Hamilton aren't forthcoming about the tolerance, reading online I found someone saying expect +/- 15 seconds a day. My new nh35 was -12 well within tolerance for that cheap movement, but I can't live with that so off came the back and it is now +4. I couldn't do that with the Murph, and I'm not sure the AD could either! It sounds like they just swap the movement come service time too. For an over £800 watch that is unacceptable.
What do you think, am I unreasonable? Do you like the Murph or is it too plain?
