Hi Guys

The previous address that most of you probably have in your Favourites for Jayhawks database seems to have moved.

I had looked at this, and was a bit disappointed to find that the 7A28 and particularly the 7A38 models weren't covered. sad.gif

In the meantime, I'd noticed that a frequent eBay seller, based in the Philippines, always stated the month / year of manufacture on his listings for 7A38's. His most recent 7A38 auctions ended early this morning:

# 360139907726 - a 7A38-7010 (with a poor bezel insert) s/n 395559, in his description: "39.....September 1983." and
# 370176587611 - a 7A38-7289 (very scruffy looking gold-tone) s/n 7N5980, where he wrote: "7N.....November 1987."

So I emailed the seller, and asked the question (Well, us dumb newbies have gotta learn somehow. blush.gif )

He replied, very promptly:
QUOTE
okay, these are from the 80s...so first number is the year, 2nd is the month...

So, is it really that simple ? huh.gif

Err, maybe, or maybe not. I just sat down, and logged the serial numbers of my 7A38's, in approximate chronological order ....

From the oldest 7A38-7000, to the newest 7A38-7289:

7A38-7000 - 3O4262 (I thought this was a '0' at first rolleyes.gif )
7A38-7000 - 412302 (incoming soon, hopefully wink.gif )
7A38-7020 - 412285
7A38-7060 - 682260
7A38-7270 - 770526
7A38-7270 - 772558
7A38-7270 - 791339
7A38-7280 - 823392
7A38-7289 - 915465
7A38-7289 - 965611

So, I think it's safe to assume that a second s/n digit in the range 1-9 covers months January through September.
From my previous post, it would seem that 'N' = November; from above 'O' = October, and presumably 'D' = December.
(That is to say, rather than 2nd and 3rd digits of '12' being December, as I might possibly have misconstrued at first. blush.gif )

7A38-7270 - 791339

I dug out the sales receipt for my own original 7A38-7270, which I purchased 'new' from a reputable local jewellers ....

.... much later than I'd remembered, in fact - January 1990. But it had been manufactured way back in September 1987 !! mad.gif

I shouldn't complain really. unsure.gif It's still looking good, and going strong / keeping good time smile.gif ....

.... and still running on the last replacement battery which was fitted in October 2005. shocking.gif

It's the Seiko database that's not letting us in Phil, not the Date Finder.

I'd exchanged a couple of emails with John Gauch, owner of the database, asking him to add the 7A28 and 7A38 models.

Although he's long since received confirmation of Seiko's dates of manufacture (1982-1989) from a thread on SCWF ....

He still doesn't appear to have added them to his table. So, I'd been going in, a couple of times a week, to check if he had.

Their server appeared to have been down on quite a few occasions.

Seiko Model Database / Date Calculator is now updated to include the 7A28 and 7A38 models. smile.gif Thanks, John ! thumbsup.gif
