    • I’ve never paid much attention the Speedie Pro, I thought it was rather boring and really wondered if there was any point buying it over the Auto version… Anyhow, I tried one on last Saturday and was really impressed with it. I’m not sure what changed my mind but once it was on the wrist I seriously stared thinking about one for my next purchase… I’m deep into saving so thought I’d better start the research - the favourite part of the hobby for me.   After reading about the history and the differences between the Pro and Auto I started to get into the various Pro models and that’s where I got confused. It would seem that anything pre 1983 (145.0022) is well beyond sensible money… so… moving on from there, I learnt that in 1989, the reference changed to 3592.50 and that in 1997, the movement was upgraded the Omega cal. 1861 and the dial and hands were applied with Luminova instead of Tritium… which is about all I know!   This brings me up to what I’m calling a ‘modern Speedie’ and where my interest is going to be buying wise… At the moment I’m pondering a few things: https://www.jomashop.com/omega-watch-311-30-42-30-01-005.html -          Do I have any choice with a budget of between £1,800 - £2,500? -          Are there any interesting variants (dial, hands, sub dials)? -          Is there much difference in movements post 1997? -          The size differences – are they all 42mm (apart from the Co-Axial version at 44.5mm) or are there other sizes? -          Is there a difference between a ‘Moonwatch’ and a ‘Pro’? Can we only call the 105.012 and 145.012 references used by Apollo 11 astronauts a ‘Moonwatch’? Or are they all ‘Moonwatches’ once ‘Professional’ is written on the dial?   I’ll shut up now
